January 15th I was sitting in Barnes & Noble waiting for my darling roommate, Catherine. This past month I have taken up reading Irresistible Revolution by Shane Claibourne. Through this book my heart has been opened to so many possibility. One moment I will be desiring to sell all I have and move to Africa. In the next breath the thought of a backcountry camping experience is formulating. To say the least, my mind wont calm down.
I received an impulse. My brain sent neurons to the synapse of my voluntary muscles and said "Get up." So i responded. I found my feet carrying my exploding mind to a different section of the bookstore: the travel section. My hands reached up and took hold of a book simply entitled "Wyoming". And so it began.
I spent the next 10 minutes looking for all the books I could find on this subject of Wyoming. At this point my childlike mind was mostly desiring picture books. I want to visualize this place, the outlet of adventure, this "heart cry" coming to life. After gathering 2 books and a state map I took my seat again, finished off my doppio espresso macchiato, and began to plan.
My prayer: let me worship YOU as I see your glorious Tetons, your beautiful geiser, your rocky mountains, your open land. Let me sing YOUR praises with my every step. God, your creation is my passion. I can't even wait...
My adventure:
Wyoming. The Continental Divide Trail. 600 miles. Monte Maider and me. July 2010.
